Five Awesome Websites for Writers

I probably could've come up with more than five, but I didn't want to bore you too much.

A few weeks ago, I wrote a post called, "Writing Stuff is Hard." And it is. However, as some of you may be aware, I run a fiction writing club in my school called the Writer's Nook, which meets online every other Friday. As the leader, I have compiled a list of websites that have helped me with my writing, and I thought I'd share some with you today.








1. Writer's Digest
This website has a lot of amazing stuff. Weekly writing prompts, a free e-mail newsletter, contests, and tons of articles about all things writing. If you have questions about publishing or finding an agent, Writer's Digest has a lot of helpful tips and how-to's for that. There are also plenty of things about writer's block, writing dialogue, almost anything you can imagine. The website covers a lot of genres, from romance to sci-fi. I really recommend you at least check it out, but the e-mail newsletter is totally worth subscribing to as well.

2. Helping Writers Become Authors
This website is somewhat similar to Writer's Digest in that it provides a lot of articles for help in different areas of writing.  However, it is a little different, so I encourage you to check this one out as well.

Anyway, happy Friday everyone! I hope you all had a good week. So anyway, I'll be honest with you, I had no idea what I was going to talk about this week until I decided I could share my Polyvore creations with you guys. I know it's kind of a random topic, but it is a topic. If anyone has any suggestions on what I should post about next, leave a comment! I read all of them.

Alrighty then, for those of you who don't know, Polyvore.com is a website where people create different collages using the internet. Many people (including me) design outfits with it. I actually found it through the blog Console to Closet, which features outfits based on different video game characters. You should check it out, while you're here. It's an awesome website, and the ownder does a great job with her outfits.

I haven't tried any video game outfits yet, but I have made some outfits based off of book characters. Right now, I just have Percy Jackson characters, but I'm thinking of doing one for Alex Rider. Oh yeah, and I've done some for my own characters too. Front Page AGAIN?

So... woke up late this morning. Walked on treadmill for my PE class (I hate it. Sorry, but I hate it). Took shower. Ate mini bagel. Logged onto computer. Logged into school. Checked Yahoo! feeds. Checked Figment.

Again?! But yeah seriously... "That Band Story" is my book! And it got featured! The funniest thing is though, it's not even a complete story yet. I mean, the whole plot is out and all, but there are some points where I need to put the band's name in (I have yet to think of one) and a song or two. But still... pretty cool! And almost exactly a month after the first time I got featured!

Hey! So my friend in school was telling me about this website called Figment, and I just signed up about two days ago. Basically, it's like DeviantArt, but for writing. I made my own profile, so I thought you might like to check it out!

Love Calculator

So this is, yet again, a silly post, but it's actually kinda interesting (to me, at least).
You see, at the beginning of the month, when I had my birthday party, my one friend (I'm not mentioning any names, but I'm she knows who she is) brought out her iPod and showed all of us this "love calculator" app she found (only she would look for strange stuff like that). Anyways, she entertained herself by testing her name with every member of OneDirection, and finally gave m an unwanted turn. So what did I do? I typed fictional character names, of course! And my other friend did the same, and we cracked up over the results. We were wondering though, how it worked, and I thought it had to do with how similar the two names were to each other.
Right now, you're probably wondering what the heck this is all leading up to. Last night, I was thinking about it, and I went to everybody's best friend, Google, to find out the answer. I found this link to Yahoo! Answers, and it actually explained it really well. To an extent, I was kinda right. It doesn't really have to do with how similar the names are, but rather what letters are in the names. I just thtought it was pretty cool, and the way they explained it was easy, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to share.

TasteKid

Hello everybody, I know this is random once again, but I was looking around the internet for some suggestions for something I'm writing (I needed some bands that sounded like Three Days Grace) and I came across this website called TasteKid. Basically, you type in your interests, and then the search engine thingy looks for suggestions for you. Anyway, I thought it was a cute little site, and it's actually a lot of fun to play around with.

Console to Closet

Okay, so I just thought about posting this now, but a few weeks ago there was an article on Zelda Universe about this website called Console to Closet. What it is is a website with outfits that someone has designed based off of various video games. For example, there's one for everyone's favorite antagonistic AI, GLaDOS, Assassin's Creed, the magical Princess Zelda, and even Amaterasu from the game Okami. So if this kind of thing interests you, it's really a great website to check out. There are so, so, so many different designs to look at, I can bet ten dollars there's something you'll like!
